How we collect, use and protect your personal data — written in plain English so you can actually read it.
1. Who we are
EconTutor LLC (“EconTutor”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates economicstutor.co.uk (the “Site”) and the tutoring service offered through it. We are a Delaware-registered limited liability company operating from New York, NY, USA, and we offer tutoring to students in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data collected through the Site and the contact, messaging and analytics tools described below.

2. What information we collect
We collect only what we need to answer your enquiry, deliver lessons and understand which pages are useful. It comes from four sources:
- Contact forms — when you send a message through a form on the Site we receive your first and last name, phone number, email address, the subject you choose and the message you write. Submissions are stored in the Site’s database and emailed to economics@econtutor.com.
- WhatsApp — if you click a “Book a Demo” or chat button, WhatsApp opens with a pre-filled message to +44 7441 440060. We then see your WhatsApp name and phone number and the messages you send. WhatsApp is operated by Meta Platforms; its own privacy policy governs how the app itself handles your data.
- Lesson records — once you book, we keep your name, contact details, exam board and level, the topics we cover and your lesson schedule and payment record.
- Analytics and site logs — page views, clicks and scroll depth through Google Analytics 4 (see §5). We do not record keystrokes, mouse movements or session replays. Our hosting provider keeps minimal server logs (IP address, browser type, time of request) to keep the Site running and defend it against abuse.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, special-category data such as health information. If a student is under 18, a parent or guardian should make the enquiry and manage the booking.
3. Why we collect it, and the lawful basis
- Answering enquiries and delivering lessons — necessary to take the steps you ask for before a contract and to perform it (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- Keeping records of lessons and payments — legal obligation for tax and accounting records (Article 6(1)(c)) and legitimate interest in running the business (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Understanding how the Site is used — so we can see which revision pages students actually read and improve them. This runs on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), given through the cookie banner, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Security and abuse prevention — server logs and the Cloudflare Turnstile check on our forms are a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)).
We do not sell personal data. We do not use it for automated decision-making. We do not use your messages or lesson content to train machine-learning models. We share data only with the processors named in §4, and only as far as each needs it to do its job.
4. Who we share it with
- Hostinger International Ltd. — hosts the Site and the database that stores form submissions. hostinger.com/privacy-policy
- Google LLC — Google Analytics 4 (analytics, consent-based) and Google Fonts (the fonts on this Site are served from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address when a page loads). policies.google.com/privacy
- Cloudflare, Inc. — Turnstile, the bot check on our forms. It processes your IP address and browser signals to tell people from bots. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Meta Platforms — WhatsApp, if you choose to contact us that way. whatsapp.com/legal/privacy-policy
Some of these providers process data in the United States. Where that happens we rely on the UK’s data-bridge arrangements or the provider’s standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum.
5. Cookies
We use two kinds of cookies, and you control one of them through the banner shown on your first visit (and the “Cookie settings” link in the footer at any time):
- Necessary (always on) — keep the Site working, remember your cookie choice and let Turnstile protect our forms. They do not track you across other sites.
- Analytics (off until you accept) — Google Analytics 4 cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) that record anonymous, aggregate page usage.
If you decline, the Site works exactly the same and no analytics scripts load.
6. How long we keep it
- Form submissions and WhatsApp enquiries that do not lead to lessons: deleted after 12 months.
- Lesson and payment records: 6 years after your last lesson, as UK tax rules require.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics is set to 14 months.
- Server logs: 30 days.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to: give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; and send it to you or another provider in a usable format. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time. Email economics@econtutor.com and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather hear from you first.
8. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS. Access to the Site’s admin area and the inbox that receives your messages is limited to the tutor and protected by strong, unique credentials. No online service can promise perfect security; if we ever discover a breach that affects you, we will tell you and, where required, the ICO.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the Site for 30 days.
