The agreement between you and EconTutor LLC when you book a lesson or otherwise use economicstutor.co.uk.
1. Who you are dealing with
Lessons booked through economicstutor.co.uk (the “Site”) are provided by EconTutor LLC (“we”, “us” or “our”), a Delaware limited liability company operating from New York, NY, USA. By booking a lesson, paying for one or using the Site you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must book on your behalf and agrees to these Terms for you.
2. What we provide
One-to-one online economics tutoring for A Level (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE, Edexcel IAL, Oxford AQA, WJEC/Eduqas), GCSE, IB and university courses. Lessons are delivered live over video by Sheraz Malik. We teach the specification, work through past-paper questions and prepare you for the exam. We are a tutoring service, not a school or exam centre: we do not issue grades and we cannot guarantee any particular result.
3. Booking and prices
- Prices are shown on the Site: £60 per hour for A Level and GCSE, £75–£100 per hour for university subjects. Prices are in pounds sterling and include any applicable VAT.
- We confirm each lesson by email or WhatsApp with the date, time and link. Your booking is confirmed when you receive that message.
- We invoice at the end of each week for the lessons delivered that week. Invoices are paid by UK bank transfer within 7 days. Lesson packages, where offered, are paid in full in advance.
- We may change prices for future bookings by posting the new price on the Site at least 14 days ahead. Lessons already booked stay at the price agreed.
4. Cancelling and rescheduling
- You can cancel or move a lesson free of charge with at least 24 hours’ notice by email or WhatsApp.
- With less than 24 hours’ notice, or if you do not attend, the lesson is charged in full. We will still send you any notes prepared for it.
- If we have to cancel, we offer a new time first; if none works for you, that lesson is not charged and any prepayment for it is refunded within 14 days.
- If your connection fails during a lesson we will try to reconnect; where more than 15 minutes are lost through no fault of yours we add the time to your next lesson.
5. Your right to cancel (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013)
Because you book at a distance, you have 14 days from the day you first agree to lessons to cancel the agreement for any reason. If you ask us to start lessons within those 14 days, you agree that we may charge for the lessons delivered before you cancel. To cancel, email economics@econtutor.com; no form is required. Any prepayment for lessons not yet delivered is refunded within 14 days of your cancellation.
6. What we expect from you
- Turn up on time with what we agreed to work on — the past paper, the mark scheme, your notes or the question you are stuck on.
- Tell us your exam board and level accurately; our lessons are built around the specification.
- Do not record lessons — audio, video or screen capture — without asking first.
- Treat the tutor with the courtesy you would show a teacher. We reserve the right to end an engagement, refunding any prepaid lessons, where that breaks down.
7. Academic honesty
We teach; we do not do the work for you. We will not sit an exam or assessment for you, complete coursework or an EPQ that you submit as your own, or help you break your school’s or exam board’s rules. If asked to, the tutor will decline.
8. Materials
Notes, diagrams, worked examples and any other material we prepare for you or publish on the Site remain our intellectual property. You may use them for your own study and share them with a classmate. You may not sell them, post them to note-sharing or homework sites, or use them to train a machine-learning model. Past papers and mark schemes belong to the exam boards; we link to them on the boards’ own websites.
9. Our liability
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law says cannot be limited. Otherwise, we are not liable for exam results, for losses that were not foreseeable when you booked, or for problems caused by your own equipment or internet connection, and our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event in question. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015: we must deliver lessons with reasonable care and skill, and if we do not, you can ask us to put it right or reduce the price.
10. Ending the agreement
Either of us can end the arrangement at any time by email or WhatsApp. Lessons already delivered are paid for; prepaid lessons not yet delivered are refunded within 14 days.
11. Problems and complaints
If something has gone wrong, email economics@econtutor.com and we will reply within 5 working days. We aim to resolve any complaint within 14 days.
12. Law and courts
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales (or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts).
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The version on this page when you book applies to that booking. We will show the date of the latest change at the top of the page.
